The Butterfly, The Snake, and The Bear

I wonder if they know: the butterfly, the snake, and the bear. About the cocoon. About the shedding skin. About hibernation. I wonder if the butterfly knows about the envelope of darkness. About the five to twenty one days of solitude (or up to three years in the desert). About how its old body must dissolve, in order to design new. About the light at the end of the metamorphosis.
I wonder if the snake knows about its old and worn out skin. About its one to two weeks of shedding. Surely it does not think "oh I am too tattered, so life is over now." Google says to leave them be and avoid handling during this time. Endure the stress, ditch the aged dress.
I wonder if the bear knows about its metabolic depression. About the gentle resting state. That they must sleep in the small den in order to play in the fresh water. That its heart rate must slow in winter, in order to be strong and fast enough to catch the salmon in the summer.
